Stay overnight — do not try this as an Adelaide day trip
Most rushed trips fail on the Eyre Peninsula highway, not on Stamford Hill. Sleep in Port Lincoln. Then pick one walk.

Stamford Hill
moderateParks SA: one of the 40 Great Australian Short Walks. Climb Stamford Hill to the historic Flinders Monument for views over Boston Bay, Port Lincoln, the park and offshore islands. Return the same way. Moderate inclines, good surface, about 45 minutes.

Stamford Loop
moderateParks SA: hike up Stamford Hill for the Boston Bay panorama, then continue down via the Investigator Trail past historic woodcutter ruins (near checkpoint 6) back to the car park. Same start as the short hike; more elevation and variety.

Investigator Trail
hardLong-distance network named for HMS Investigator / Flinders 1802. Parks SA publishes three treks: Cape Donington–Pillie/Taylor’s 30.7 km / 10 hr; park entrance–Cape Donington 36 km / 12 hr; Pillie–entrance via Sleaford Mere 26.3 km / 9 hr. Full-circuit 80–90 km figures are third-party — do not treat them as official.

Coastal heat is not town weather
- No drinking water in the park. Memory Cove camp water is non-potable.
- Mobile is patchy, especially in low-lying areas — 000 needs reception.
- Western Sleaford 4WD entrance blocked (snapshot 26 Aug 2026) — main entrance only.
- Park closed on Catastrophic fire days; may close on Extreme.
- Rips, undercut cliffs, feral bees at water — not a snow hazard list.

Half day on the ground (overnight in Port Lincoln first)
Half-day Stamford Hill and beach
Sleep in Port Lincoln. Pay vehicle entry. Climb Stamford Hill (1.6 km return, ~45 min), then Stamford Beach or Surfleet Cove. Do not add Memory Cove or the dune track.

Donington Loop (6.2 km / ~2 hr) plus September Beach time. Optional 1 km lighthouse–beach link. Vehicle entry paid. Camping only if you booked September Beach.

Memory Cove day (book + key)
Parks SA: 15 vehicles a day. Book vehicle entry and camping, collect the key from Port Lincoln Visitor Information Centre, then 4WD to the locked gate. Vehicle $14.40 + camping $34.10/night (checked 26 Aug 2026 — VERIFY). No fires or generators.

Is there an entry fee for Lincoln National Park?
Yes. Parks SA (park page checked 26 Aug 2026): vehicle entry $14.40 per vehicle, payable before entry. Camping is separate (from $23.10/night). Memory Cove is vehicle $14.40 plus camping $34.10/night. 2-month and 12-month multi-park passes include Lincoln + Memory Cove for vehicle entry — camping is not included. VERIFY live. The free coastal-park vehicle-entry promo ended 6 April 2026.
How long from Adelaide to Lincoln National Park?
Parks SA: about 8 hours and roughly 665–680 km to the park / Port Lincoln. Optional shorter route via the Wallaroo–Cowell ferry when operating. It is not an Adelaide day trip. Overnight in Port Lincoln if you want Stamford Hill or Donington with energy left.
What should I do first on a first visit?
Sleep in Port Lincoln, pay vehicle entry, walk Stamford Hill (1.6 km return, ~45 min) then Stamford Beach or Surfleet Cove. Do not add Memory Cove (key + 15-vehicle cap) or the Sleaford–Wanna dune track on the same first afternoon.
Can I just drive into Memory Cove?
No. Book vehicle entry and camping, collect a gate key from the Port Lincoln Visitor Information Centre, 15 vehicles a day. Official Memory Cove page: 4WD required at times; caravans not permitted; $50 cash key deposit (VERIFY hours — (08) 8683 3544 on the fees tab). That cap is not a day-walk permit for the rest of the park.
