What to bring

Practical kit for coastal heat, 4WD sand and patchy reception

  • Water 3 L+Parks SA: no drinking water in the park. Memory Cove camp water is non-potable. Carry it.
  • Sun hat + high SPFExposed granite and dune days. Stamford Hill is not a rainforest walk.
  • Long clothing (bees)Parks SA: feral European honey bees attracted to water, especially spring–autumn.
  • Offline maps (Avenza)Official park maps are free in Avenza. Reception is patchy in low-lying areas.
  • Emergency+ (free app)000 needs reception. Emergency+ can still give GPS when a voice call fails. Optional planning note.
  • PLB / satellite messengerSensible for Memory Cove, Investigator Trail or remote 4WD — not a park requirement. Do not invent carrier maps.
  • 4WD recovery shovelParks SA: getting bogged in sand is common. Stay on designated tracks; deflate for sand.
  • Tyre deflator / compressorSleaford–Wanna sand. Reinflate before sealed roads.
  • Day pack 20–30 LWater, first aid, layers — even a 45-minute Stamford climb in summer heat.
  • First-aid + blister kitCoastal granite and dune sand punish fashion sneakers.
  • HeadlampUseful if a Donington loop or Investigator section runs long.
  • Camping stove (wood fires often banned)Wood collection is prohibited. Surfleet: no campfires. Memory Cove: no fires. Fire danger season (usually 1 Nov–15 Apr) bans wood/solid-fuel fires. A stove is the honest default.
