Stamford Hill Loop Hike

Parks SA: hike up Stamford Hill for the Boston Bay panorama, then continue down via the Investigator Trail past historic woodcutter ruins (near checkpoint 6) back to the car park. Same start as the short hike; more elevation and variety.

Do not pair: Do not stack this loop with Donington Loop and Wanna dunes in one day.

Turnaround: If you are cooked at the monument, descend the way you came — that is the short hike, and it is enough.

  • Doing the short hike, then deciding to “just continue” without water for 5.7 km.
  • Hard hike · 2 hr loop
  • ~2 hr
  • 5.7 km loop
  • Effort: moderate
  • Best for: Fit first-timers who want the monument plus Investigator Trail history, not a second peninsula

Distance, grade, time and open/closed status change — verify on Parks SA before you go.

How to get there

  1. Main entrance via Proper Bay Road from Port Lincoln. Pay vehicle entry first.
  2. Park at the Stamford Hill base car park. Do not leave cars on verges.

How to do it (step by step)

  1. Climb to the Flinders Monument as for the short hike.
  2. Continue down Stamford Hill on the signed loop / Investigator Trail section.
